Schrimmages are a great way to put some of the things you have been working on in a game situation. We tell all our athletes to make sure that you have one or two things that you want to execute during a schrimmage whether it be on offense or defense. Doctor Sanchez always talks about being excellent with one or two things in a sport can make a career for an athlete but it takes practice to become excellent at anything. For example, if you are a basketball player and you have been working on your elbow pull up jump shot, plan to make two or three jump shots before making a driving layup. If you are a soccer player and you have been working on dribbling and shooting with your left foot, plan to dribble or pass primarily with your left foot on two or three possessions before using your right foot. Doctor Sanchez says that this is planning for success. Practicing with a purpose is one of the key ingredients for ahtletic success or success in life.
